REACH Studio Art Center reaches out to local students

Posted

WEDNESDAY, Aug. 5 — REACH Studio Art Center in REO Town has found a way to stay in touch with the Lansing community despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Though the gallery itself isn’t open, REACH has been engaged in multiple projects — including online art classes and virtual art exhibitions.

Its latest project, Art Without Barriers, seeks to bring art supplies to local students in need. The supplies come bundled in Art Packs, which include clay, colored pencils, crayons, sidewalk chalk, a sketchbook, paper, oil pastels, a watercolor paint set and more. REACH first rolled out the program at Gardner Middle School and Cavanaugh school, there they distributed 100 Art Packs to almost 200 students.

REACH is encouraging students who received Art Packs to share their work online using the hashtag, #REACHArtFromHome. You can follow them on Twitter and Instagram to see the artwork for yourself.

REACH distributes the Art Packs during the Lansing School District's Eat Up & Meet Up Program. They plan to continue distribution indefinitely. If your family would like an Art Pack, you can contact REACH directly at info@reachstudioart.org.
