Sludge metal legends Crowbar perform at The Loft

Posted

THURSDAY, Aug. 1 — Sludge metal, a musical sect owing its birth to a filthy coalescence of Black Sabbath and the depressed rock sounds of the underbelly of New Orleans, is one of metal’s most endearing subgenres.

Crowbar, true icons of sludge —and subjects of perhaps Beavis and Butthead’s most potent roast — have a gig in Lansing this Sunday at The Loft.

The band is noteworthy for its close affiliation with Pantera, one of the most successful metal bands of all time. Pantera’s lead singer Phil Anselmo would often wear Crowbar shirts in music videos and onstage, giving his underground friends enhanced visibility in the mainstream.

Crowbar’s lead singer/guitarist Kirk Windstein never gave his group up, making Crowbar recognizable stalwarts of heavy music. Since their ’90s peak, Windstein has continued to grind out Crowbar tours and albums with no hints of stopping.

Opening acts include Ohio’s Lo-Pan and Lansing’s All Ends Black and Loa. Tickets are available at The Loft’s website.
