Tickets on sale for ‘Bluey’s Big Play’ at Wharton

FRIDAY, Jan. 26 — The Heeler family is packing their bags and hitting the road to perform for children across the country in “Bluey’s Big Play: The Stage Show,” coming to the Wharton Center May 28 and 29. 

The play is based on the Emmy Award-winning animated series “Bluey,” which airs on Disney Junior, Disney Channel and Disney+ and follows the adventures of 6-year-old blue heeler dog Bluey and her three family members. The series premiered in Australia in 2018 and has since become a global hit, airing in 60 countries and holding the title of Disney Junior’s most-watched TV series in the United States for kids ages 2 to 6 since March 2021.

The stage show, featuring an original story by series creator Joe Brumm and new music by series composer Joff Bush, includes both puppets and live actors. Bluey and her younger sister, Bingo, offer plenty of antics to entertain audiences both old and young.

“When Dad feels like a little bit of Sunday afternoon time out, Bluey and Bingo have other plans! Join them as they pull out all of the games and cleverness at their disposal to get Dad off that bean bag,” the play’s website reads.

The play, which The Guardian praised as “an incredibly fun, energetic performance” with “plenty of heart,” is presented by BBC Studios and Andrew Kay and Associates in association with Windmill Theatre Co. It debuted in Bluey’s hometown of Brisbane, Australia, in December 2020 and went on to be performed 447 times across 67 venues in Australia.
