Davis Mielock faces campaign complaint

Candidate hit with second complaint over identifying campaign committee on literature, says county clerk

Shelley Davis Mielock is facing a campaign finance compliant over a flier which advertised a meet and greet with the First Ward candidate on Oct. 13. The problem?

"On October 15, 2015, I received notification that campaign literature on behalf of Shelley Davis Mielock for Lansing City Council was disseminated without the name and address of the committee that paid for the literature," Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum wrote in a letter Friday to state election officials.

State law requires that all promotional materials for candidates and campaigns display the name of the candidate committee which is responsible for the literature. This is done to allow for transparency and show who is funding a candidate's campaign.

Byrum told state officials this is the second such complaint against Davis Mielock's campaign, noting a similar complaint was filed September 10 of this year.

Davis Mielock did not respond to an email inquiry over the weekend seeking comment about the complaint.

Davis Mielock is challenging incumbent Jody Washington to represent residents on the Eastside as the First Ward representative on City Council.

The flier in question advertised a candidate meet and greet at Foster Community Center on Oct. 13. The flier noted the event was paid for by supporters. Here's the flier in question:
