THURSDAY, Sept. 19 — The scent of spray paint could be smelled from a mile away as muralists from Lansing, Detroit, Chicago and New York took to the streets to paint vivid images on drab walls. The Below the Stacks festival sees 10 completed murals across the city within one week.
Announced in January, the project saw the city put up $75,000 worth of grant money for the event for its 2019 Arts Impact Project.
Ozay Moore of All of the Above Hip Hop Academy and Dustin Hunt of Muralmatics put forth the idea and are supervising its completion. “It is designed to highlight the stories and beauty that exist at ground level in Lansing,” Moore said.
Here is an update on the progress of the official murals. All are set to be completed by Saturday.
