A lucky weekend in Lansing

Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day, so don your favorite green attire, crack open a Guinness and get ready to celebrate with a host of events throughout Greater Lansing.

To kick off your Friday, visit Crunchy’s in East Lansing beginning at 8 a.m. for a breakfast buffet, drink deals and a free St. Patrick’s Day tee shirt, Ellison Brewery and Event Space in REO Town at beginning at 10 a.m. for Irish stew, themed drinks and a live Irish band from 4 to 8 p.m. or Batter Up Bistro 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for a St. Patrick’s brunch and $5 drafts. Later, head to Horrocks Beer Garden from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for live music with Atomic Annie or Lansing Brewing Co. from 7 p.m to 10 p.m. for themed cocktails and beer and live music with Ben Traverse, Josh Holcomb and Noah Cameron.

Paint with Monet is holding a St. Patrick’s Day Adult Paint Party 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, with pre-sketched canvases, treats, karaoke and a raffle. Additionally, Nuthouse Sports Grill is hosting a scavenger hunt in downtown Lansing beginning at 1 p.m., with the grand prize winner receiving two tickets to the Detroit Tigers’ opening day, a one-night stay at a hotel in downtown Detroit and a Visa gift card.

Finally, see Lansing Community College’s production of “I Knock at the Door,” by Sean O’Casey, 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at its Black Box Theatre. The show, featuring Irish music, tells the story of “a family being held together by a loving and strong mother while class and religious turmoil threaten to pull them apart.”

For additional live music Friday evening, we have Jamison Livingston at Eaton Rapids Craft Co. and The Goddamn Gallows at Mac’s Bar, both at 7;  Time2Play at UrbanBeat at 8; and Johnny Stix & the Outsiders at The Green Door at 8:30. Saturday evening, we have Russ Holcomb at Eaton Rapids Craft Co. at 5; Velocity Shift at Williamston Roadhouse at 7; Ritmo Project at UrbanBeat and Seaholm, Final Boss Fight and Tournament at Mac’s Bar, both at 8; Atomic Annie at The Green Door at 8:30; Dirt Room and Bicycle Thief at The Avenue at 9; and a dance party with DJ PRIM at Eaton Rapids Craft Co. at 10. Additionally, The Knock Offs will play at The Exchange 9 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. Ending the weekend on Sunday is Woldumar Nature Center’s Folk & Bluegrass Jam with Cedar Creek Bluegras; Pretty Shaky String Band; and McKeever, Dowling and Davis Trio at 2 p.m. and Lansing Symphony Orchestra’s Piano Trio concert at First Presbyterian Church of Lansing at 3 p.m.

If you’re looking to make some music of your own, Absolute Gallery will host drum circles 2  p.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, with music from singer-songwriter Evangeline in between. There will also be a silent auction and a drive for school and art supplies and backpacks to benefit the Refugee Development Center.

Plan a whole day to view the four art exhibits on display at the Michigan State University Broad Art Museum: “Blind Spot,” “DIEGEST,” “The Nightly News” and the 2023 MSU Master of Fine Arts Exhibition. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday. If that’s not enough, visit the Lansing Art Gallery 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday or 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for its Art Scholarship Alert exhibition; the Haslett Library noon to 4 p.m. Friday or noon to 2 p.m. Saturday for an array of works by the Lansing Women’s Artist Collective; or Hannah Community Center’s Public Art Gallery 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday or noon to 8 p.m. Sunday for East Lansing artist Sarah Eubanks’ “Reflections in Watercolor” exhibit.

For theater buffs, Ixion Ensemble will start its two-weekend run of “Begets: Fall of a High School Ronin” 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Lansing Mall, and the Wharton Center is hosting a touring production of “Beetlejuice” 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Tired of facing off against family members in Monopoly or Jenga? Visit the Mason Library 6:15 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday to learn a new role-playing game from its staff and meet other players from the community or try your hand at euchre noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at Unity Spiritual Center of Lansing.

Local children’s book author Kara Morales will visit the Charlotte Community Library 5:30 p.m. Friday to talk about her book “Kaydee,” about her now-deceased pet Yorkie exploring the world around her and learning life lessons as a puppy. Morales will also touch on what it’s like to be an author and illustrator, perfect for kids with a passion for creativity.

Finally, St. John’s Lutheran Church in St. Johns is holding a Cabin Fever Breakout Bazaar 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, with vendors selling everything from jams, jellies and other sweet treats to jewelry, collectibles and estate items.
