Born Free & Equal: Michigan’s Colored Regiment

Friends of Historic Meridian, the nonprofit organization that operates the Meridian Historical Village and works to build and sustain public knowledge of local history, will kick off its 2024 lecture series 3 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 22) at the village’s chapel with a presentation by historian Maurice Imhoff, co-founder and president of the Jackson County Michigan Historical Society. Imhoff will cover the 102^nd Colored Infantry, a regiment composed of African American men from Canada and Michigan that fought for the Union Army during the Civil War. 

The event is free, but donations will be accepted. The speaker series will continue with events March 6, April 3 and June 5. For more information, visit meridianhistoricalvillage.org.
